The city is continually reinventing itself: the sweeping urban renewal and facelift leading up to the 1992 Olympics were but the latest step in a process that started two thousand years ago when the Carthaginians and Romans settled here. Barcelona has some unique monuments like the Sagrada Familia and the The Cathedral and some of the most incredible modern architecture. Free time to explore.

We shall visit the Gothic Cathedral (begun c. 1292), with one of the world's widest (74 feet [23 m]) aisle-less naves and a Romanesque cloister. The visit continues through the old town around the Cathedral of Gerona (or Girona). This area was an important Jewish center which can be best admired at "El Call" where Jewish legacy has been kept almost intact. Lunch in the vicinity of Gerona.
