International Choir Festival Sing & Play
The edition of the International Choir Festival Sing & Play in Alsace will take place in June. Alsace is a region in the North-East of France, bordering Germany and Switzerland.
The history of Alsace has been quite eventful over the last two centuries as the region has been both French and German. Its attachment to Germany from 1870 to 1919, an important and dynamic period, is perhaps the one that has had the most influence on the current identity of Alsace, which differs from the other French regions in many details and this mixture of cultures.
Perhaps as a reaction against these successive upheavals, Alsace has managed to remain attached to its traditions and could maintain its regional heritage. This is also true for the practice of singing. Thus, many typical melodies sung by young and old alike over the centuries can be found in its culture. They are sung in the family, at work, but above all at numerous traditional or local festivals.
This tradition of singing has been the breeding ground for many choirs and musical groups and makes Alsace a perfect setting for the International Choir Festival Sing & Play.
However, the region is full of other treasures that you will have the opportunity to discover during your stay like for example following the famous wine road in this vineyard place.
